My work

About

In my late 20’s I attended the Art and Design college in St Helen’s where I went 2 days a week in the evening for 6 years and loved every minute. In that time I learnt all the basic techniques and passed an Art and Design exam. I moved house through my full time job and tried to find another class without success. My work took over and I put my pottery head to bed.
My mother rekindled my love of pottery by kindly buying me a wheel and small kiln so I started again at home but unfortunately work again intervened. My beloved wheel and kiln where moved several times over the years with each house move and at one point I even considered selling both but they were left gather dust in the back of each garage.
Some years later, after retiring from full time work, I started a part time job showing adults with physical and learning difficulties cooking and crafting techniques. Using air dried clay again my thoughts turn to my much neglected kiln and wheel languishing at the back of our garage. To my surprise both still worked!!
Just before lockdown( what a coincidence)I ordered some materials and, with the help of my partner set up a small studio in the garden. With the loss of my part time job due to COVID restrictions and with time on my hands the wheel got spinning and my old kiln fired up.
Last Christmas I was invited, by the local church, to put up a stall during their Christmas tree festival and my work was well received. So I have continue to hone my skills relearn all the techniques I learned all those years ago.
Alongside my ceramic work I have three other loves in my life ie cooking, gardening and my partner Ian who could not be more supportive.
